Help! I've been trying to make granola for the past two weeks and everytime I do it comes out bland and just nasty! I think it's because all the recipes I'm trying only have honey as the sweetener. Now, I'm a honey fanatic, but honey doesn't seem to be doing the granola justice! Does anyone out there have a good granola recipe they've used before with success that calls for brown sugar and maybe a little bit of honey? Or maybe just all brown sugar in the granola?
Thanks for your help.

Here's one from my sis-in-law, Beka.
Combine in large bowl:
8 c. old fashioned oats
1 c. wheat germ
1 c. sunflower seeds
1-2 c. nuts
3/4 c. brown sugar
1/2 t. salt
Combine, then stir into dry ing.:
1 c oil
1 c water
5 t vanilla
Spread evenly into 2 9x13 pans.
Bake at 250-300' stirring every 10-15 minutes (250' - 15 minutes, 300 - 10 minutes). The granola is down when it is dry and golden brown, about 1 1/2 to 2 hours.
Do you have the one from More with Less?
3/4 c. brown sugar
1/3 c. honey
1/3 c. oil
5 c. old-fashioned oats
1/2 c. dry milk powder
3/4 tsp. cinnamon
pinch of salt
Mix brown sugar, oil, and honey in a saucepan. Bring to a boil and heat until the sugar has dissolved. Combine dry ingredients in a large cake pan. Pour syrup over dry mixture and mix well. Bake at 375 for 10 minutes. Stir occasionally. Let cool in pan. Add any goodies that you want. I usually double this and add more cinnamon. Very, very good!
Ingredients:
1/3 cup vegetable oil
3 tablespoons honey
1/4 cup powdered milk
1 teaspoon vanilla
4 cups uncooked, old-fashioned oats
1/2 cup sunflower seeds
1 cup raisins
Directions:
1. Warm oil and honey in a skillet for one minute over medium heat. Add
powdered milk and vanilla.
2. Stir in oats and sunflower seeds and mix until coated with oil and
honey mixture. Heat over medium heat. Stir until oatmeal is slightly
brown.
3. Take off heat. Stir in raisins.
4. Cool mixture. Store in an airtight container (jar or plastic bag)
I usually use crushed nuts instead of seeds, b/c I have them on hand. It just uses honey, but I like the sweetness.
Thanks again everyone!
Mom, I don't. I wasn't even looking for granola recipes at the time I was thumbing through your More With Less Cookbook.
