I don't really know what all this song means. I'm not politically minded at all but there's something about it I've always kinda liked. I'd probably be embarrassed by my lack of historical and political knowledge if I were to find out the meaning of this song
But, anyway, I love belting out the song when it comes on....this coming from someone who isn't really a U2 fan at all!

oh my...U2 is my fav band EVER!! Bloody Sunday was (in a nutshell)in the early 70's in Northern Ireland. Almost 30 unarmed protestors (some of them teenagers)were gunned down by the British Army..who were basically cleared of any charges. I don't think most Americans know how nasty their troubles were/are. I sure didnt know until I was over there during the Orange parades....
I also love this song! But I do like U2, or at least I like some of their older music. I don't really know all the details about Bloody Sunday either.
