on saturday james and i went to a concert
A FREE Christian concert on the beach! It was so much fun because it was early enough in the day that I wasn't too tired to enjoy it. It was a fairly small crowd but it was neat to see fellow Christians join onthe beach to ROCK to edifying and non-offensive music.
The bands that shared their talent with us were Pillar (pictured below)
and FireFlight:

We had the opportunity to go to the beach with their little friend who lives in our building. His name's Rahul and we play with him just about every day after naps on the courtyard tiles for an hour and a half or so. They all have a lot of fun playing together and so we went to the beach to play for a change of scenery.
Naomi loves to play with the sand bucket and pretend to make food.

we have success!!
Henry went #2 in the toilet!!!!! I was desperate for him to get the hang of all of the toilet training stuff and especially how to relax and just poop on the potty. I tried everything: candy rewards, endcouraging words, stickers, threats ;-) and even showing him how to strain if he needed to. Then, I thought maybe I could encourage it by telling him that if he went poop in the potty and didn't poop in his pants we could go get a big dump truck at the store. That seemed to spark something. He said, with his hands in the air, "OK!!!" and not 1 hour later he purposely strained and pooped in the pot!!! Followed by 3 more poops in the toilet later that day and no poop accidents since. We are so proud of our 3 year and 2 month old boy!!!
And I think he's pretty proud of himself too!

bedtime songs
All three of the kiddos recently received books in the mail from our friend Mrs. Esping. Naomi really likes her book. It has music buttons to sing with the songs in the book. It's called Bedtime Songs. We read that book almost nightly. Naomi also likes to sing her book by herself on the couch in the kid's room. I think it's so sweet because she knows some of the songs and some of the words to the songs but not word for word. She takes her book and her singing seriously.

my friend nicole
On Sunday, our family traveled down to Sunny Isles, FL (a suburb of Miami), about a 17 min. drive from our house, to see my old friend from high school. Nicole is a nanny for a family that lives in Boston. Every year they travel to Miami and so we had the privelege of seeing her! I hadn't seen Nic in 5 years and we have the kind of friendship that even if we haven't seen each other or talked for a long time we can just pick up where we left off. We would alway get so silly and hyper when we hung out together in high school and this time was no exception except for a little more maturity! : )
Nicole had never met James or seen our kids before so it was great to be able to introduce her to my family. The kids took to her really well, she's so good with children. She has so much fun with them and plays with them too, which the kids love!
Nicole and me!!!
We started out meeting at McDonald's for supper then we went to a park nearby. I took some pictures at the park but it was getting dark so the pictures didn't turn out well. After the park we walked over to Starbucks to enjoy a smoothee and Nic got some yogurt. The kids thought that she got it for them to share and sweet Nicci kindly shared with my begging kiddos!

Nicole and Marcail being silly!

Naomi and Marcail "sharing" Nicole's yogurt.

Here we all are around the table outside Starbucks.
Henry, me, Nicole and Marcail. As the sun went down it got chilly and was a bit breezy being so close to the ocean so we wrapped the kids up in their blankeys. This was James' wise idea.

kid-isms II
So, I put oregano oil on the bottoms of our kid's feet every night after baths then pull their socks on afterward to keep the oil from getting all over my floor. Oregano oil is an anti-fungal and it absorbs into the kid's feet and helps fight off viruses and colds. I have found that if the kids do get a cold it doesn't last near as long as it has in the past when I wasn't using oregano oil! I am a believer in this holistic and homeopathic and, I admit, weird use of oregano! It works!!
All the kids like it when I put it on their feet and take this part of their bedtime routine pretty seriously. They do have a hard time pronouncing this unusual word, though. This is how it sounds when they say it:
"Paykanpo".
It took me a while to figure out what it was that they were saying.
"Me have paykanpo on my foots."

new jammies from great grandma
Our kiddos were given new p.j.s from their great grandma Jerry while I was in Kansas. They were so excited to wear them once they had their baths! Marcail and Naomi have never worn nightgowns before and were even more pleased with the prospect of wearing a "dress" with Princess' on them. Henry, of course, loved his Cars pajamas.
Thank you great Grandma for our new jammies!

kid-isms I
It was suggested to me by my mom that I should keep a record on my blog of all the funny, cute things that the kids say.
Henry is #1 on my list. He adds an unnecessary word to the end of a lot of his questions, "about". For instance:
"Why my shirt have a tiger on it about?"
or
"Why me wearing gloves about?"
Very unnecessary but cute, huh?
Yesterday, Naomi was wearing a little button-down sweater as her jacket. We were sitting down to eat supper and I told Naomi I needed to take of her jacket and Marcail preceded to tell me,
"That's not a dacket, it's a feder." (That's her word for 'sweater'.)
I didn't even know she knew it was a sweater. It just goes to show how much she really pays attention to what I say.

this morning
my friend jamie
This picture was taken at Seasons Restaurant in Lindsborg where I worked for a few months before moving to Florida. In the picture with me is my co-worker and friend Jamie. She was so much fun to work with and made me feel very welcome as I joined the team of workers at Season's.

I miss you and our fun times at Seasons! Talk to you soon.
my get-away to "familyville" a.k.a. KANSAS
This past weekend I had the privilege of flying to Kansas for a visit to see my family. James kindly let me go alone and willingly stayed home and played stay-at-home-daddy, a job he enjoyed!
Here are some pictures from the visit. My mom and dad at almost their goofiest!
We went bowling on Saturday and had such a fun time. We hadn't been bowling since before the twins were born and Liv hadn't gone bowling since college.
My sisters, Christine and Liv with my dad and me!
Liv and me with our dad in the background, keeping watch over us!

The bowling alley.
My nephew Sean.
We went to our favorite restaurant in Hutchinson, the Anchor Room. We met my uncles and aunt and grandparents there and ate some yummy Mexican food! The picture above is my Uncle John and his daughter, my cousin Emily.
My mom!

My uncle Steve and Kelly!

Emily and her mom, my Aunt Cyndi.
