kid-ism

It's been a long time since the last kid-ism post.  I've been meaning to post this one for a couple weeks now.  It's one from Marcail.  She pronounces toilet paper, 'pooh-let taper'.  I've corrected her a few times but everytime she says it her way.  She can't quite seem to switch it around in her brain.

Naomi Kid-ism

The words that Naomi says are hilarious to me sometimes.  I think I have the giggles though.

Here's just a sampling of some of her funny (to me) words.

                                                    Octopus: Oppopiss
                                                    Clock:       Cock
                                                    Stick:         Sick
                                                 And the classic::::
                                                    Hamburger: Hamgurber

kid-ism

It was chilly yesterday. I told the kids this as they were picking out their clothes. When Marcail came out in her clothes for the day she said, "Look, Mama. I'm wearing long-sleeve pants."

kid-isms

When the kids and I went into Old Navy a few weeks ago Marcail noticed Old Navy's "Modelquins" right away. She's seen the Old Navy commercials and in them the manneqiuns talk.

She was excited about them and pointed them out to me. But, she was immediately disappointed upon walking further into the store. She said, "Them are not talking." It took me a moment to realize that she was referring to the commercials!

Naomi loves to pretend she's a puppy. Or her Grandma. Oh, and a baby. Well, she just likes to pretend. And, whenever she pretends she likes to inform me of what she is. She says it like this: "I'm in the puppy." Or whatever it may be at the time that she's pretending. I don't know why she says it like that but it's kinda cute. I think she's trying to say "I am the..."

We had some coupons for Subway and used them on Saturday. The kids love Subway and I think it's a nice treat too. As the kids were finishing Henry started dancing in his chair to the music that was playing. He picked up a straw wrapper that was on the table and began to strum a guitar with the wrapper. He said to us, "I'm 'tending this is my 'tar!" Not only was he jammin to his straw wrapper guitar he was also closing his eyes and shaking his head while sticking out his tongue! He got a kick out of himself. James and I did too! What a nut that boy is!

the barette master at work

I heard Marcail calling, "I'm do-one!" yesterday afternoon. She needed wiped after she'd used the toilet. So, I walk into the bathroom to find this:

She just wanted to be wiped! I just wanted a non-blurry photo.

Yes, the masterpiece of 2 barettes in fresh-from-nap-hair. Priceless!

makeshift toolbelt

Henry has been taking his tools to play with at the beach lately. In order to tote all the tools he wants to bring he sticks them inside the waistband of his shorts. He never gets them in without making his shorts crooked and hiked up. Yes! He's a dork--but he's our dork!

kid-isms 16

Sometimes, as we walk along the beach, we go far enough to see the workout station that the avid runners and athletes use. Henry thinks this is so fascinating! He even knows what some of the benches and poles are used for. So far, he's found the sit-ups to be the easiest. Lately he's been asking to go for a little walk to the "hiccups" place.

Naomi pronounces her 'y's as 'l's. So, yucky comes out "lucky".

kid-isms 15

When the girls and Henry are playing "mommy and daddy" they call each other by mama or daddy. Sometimes I don't realize this so I'll keep answering to "mama" when I hear my name. Finally, someone will say, "No, Marcail's the mama." or Naomi will say, "No, I'm the mama."
A couple days ago, they were at it again and I knew this time, so I ignored the "mama"s and went about my business. Soon, Naomi came up to me and said, "Big Mama, big Mama, I talking to you." I guess I know my code name now when they are playing mommy and daddy.

kid-isms 14

As the kids were playing today, they decided to bring out their books and make a row with them. They like to pretend it's a train track. Henry, on the other hand, thought it would be fun to play restaurant. He balanced his book on his hand and held it up like this: He said to me, "It's kinda like a yawnstrant."

In the middle of the night last night, Naomi came out of her room. I heard her, so I got up to see what was wrong. Sometimes, all she needs is a drink. This was not the case. She didn't want a drink. So I asked her what was wrong. She said, "I cared of the guyk," which translates into, "I'm scared of the dark." Poor thing!

kid-isms 13

Most of the time, when Naomi is needing cuddle time or is hurt she wants us to carry her standing up. Not my favorite position if I'm going to be doing some extended soothing time since she gets heavy and it seems a little demanding of my 2-year-old. Yesterday, as she awoke from nap she wanted me to hold her so I picked her up and sat her in my lap as we sat on her bed. She fussed and said, "Hold me up high." I said that I wasn't going to do that because she just gets too heavy. Henry, who was standing next to us, reached over and smoothed her hair over and said, "Daddy can do it. Daddy really strong." Unfortunately, daddy was still at work. But, Naomi got over it and decided to be happy sitting with me instead.

Marcail was having a rather difficult time pulling her pants down to use the toilet before nap today. She said, "I'm too feddy." Which, in Marcail language is the word, sweaty.

The word "fix" is pronounced "Fik" by all three young-uns!

kid-isms 12

Every afternoon when I put the kids down for nap and everynight when they are going to bed we tell the kids to "sleep sweet". Naomi is a sweety because she always repeats it to me,
"Seet Seep".

kid-isms XI

It's been raining a lot lately with thunder and lightning. Henry is a bit frightened by the thunder and one night it stormed hard! I woke up that night to find him sleeping on the floor by my bed. I said, when he stood up next to me and cuddled his face into my neck, "Are you scared?" He said, "Dose funders care me." I told him it was ok and that it was all done since it had quit raining. So, I took him back to his bed and tucked him in.
That morning, he told me, "Dat funders care me, Mama. I close my eyes. No see dat boo fing (blue thing). I no like dat." How sweet was that? He was scared of the lightening too! He then asked,"God cared of dat funder?"
"No. God made the thunder so we would know that it's raining. He's not scared of it."
"Yes, God is cared of it!" He argued. I guess he needs for someone else to be scared as well.

On a lighter note: The kids pronounce milk as moak.

I don't know if I should post this but it was kinda funny to me. I was holding Naomi and she was patting my shoulders and chest and then further down. She looked at me and said, "Mama have boo boos like me have!"

kid-isms IX

The kids say washcloth: "cof-cof".

Naomi pronounces dumptruck: "dum cuk".

When the kids and I went to the beach, yesterday, to play in the water, Henry laid down on his stomach, in the sand, and started moving his arms and legs like he was swimming. He looked at me with the biggest grin and said, "Look, Mama, I swimmin! I swimmin like a firsh!"

kid-isms VIII

Marcail pronounces 'car': "ky".

Henry says 'itch' like this: "irtch".

All three of the kiddos say 'later' like this: "layler".

Henry pronounces 'pool': "cool".

Our apartment landlord's name is Pro and all the kids call him Mr. Pro but Henry pronounces his name: "Mr. Crow".

Henry says, "cool" for pool and "firsh" for fish.

All three say "cocorn" for popcorn.

Okay, so some more kid-isms!

Computer is pronounced, "Peh-peeder". (This one took me a while to figure out.)
Henry pronounces bridge, "Firdge".
Icecream is pronounced, "Ee-keem".
Spot is, "Bot". (This one took me a while to figure out, too.)

Did I already share some of these with you?

kid-isms V

Henry and Marcail use the phrase "last night" or "last day" for yesterday or if something happened a long time ago that they remember.
For example: "I play at Sean's house last night." or "I eat popsicle last day."

By the way, popsicle is pronounced by all three as "sisicle".

kid-isms IV

Marcail says the word "zip" as "rip". For example,
"Mama needs to rip my pants an button them."

Ice is pronounced by all three children as "rice".

Elevator is "Bedebador".

Henry loves "samerches" (a.k.a. sandwiches).

After nap today Marcail had a case of the toots. She was passing gas like crazy. After one particularly noisy expulsion I asked Marcail if that was her. She responded, and I quote, "I, um, um, I needed, I toot cause Jesus made me toot."
This answer from Marcail, I believe, stems from what my average response is to questions like, "Why do birds fly, Mama?" or "Why dat moon do dat about?" or "Why is it raining?" or "Why me a boy/girl?" because I usually always say, "Because God made them/you/it that way." I find it very interesting that Marcail changed her response from God to Jesus. Cool! She's understanding that God and Jesus are the same and I haven't even gone over that with the kids. It's just something she's picked up on through Bible songs and what little I've talked to the kids about. What a blessing.

kid-isms III

All three of the children call their underwear "weer-weer".
