days of summer-- 1
The heat of South Florida keeps us indoors for most of the day. We wait for the coolness of evening to arrive. The day spent inside can prove very long. Boredom soon finds it's way in and silliness sprouts up out of the children!
a belated father's day to my dad
To my Dad:

My dad and me with my middle sister, Liv.

I spoke to you on the phone last night to wish you a Happy Father's Day (even though the day was already done).
I know that this is late, but I really, truly love you and have the greatest respect for you!
I love how we can crack up so hard that we're not making any noise (at the dumbest things)!
I love how I can ask you a theological question and you almost always know the answer! If you don't, you are honest and say you need to study that more.
I love that you're not afraid of hard work! You do it for a living. I am so proud of all the beautiful houses you've built and will build Lord willing!
I love that you can play guitar and that you will always try to play the Scripture songs that I request when we have a family jam.
I love that you're a thinker and don't always make decisions impusively.
I love that you take your time answering questions and mull things over first.
I love that you enjoy taking country drives.
I love your annual fireworks display.
I love your precision as you garden or plant trees.
I love how your nostrils flair when you think something's funny.
I could go on and on but I think that you get the gist! I love you DAD!

nurse daddy
James is, by far, a better comforter and cuddler than I am when the kids are ill. When we were at the beach last night Naomi got sick. She lost her snack in the sand and looked very pale. She didn't want to drink anything and only wanted to be held. I was a nervous wreck! Quickly, I gathered up the toys we had brought and put on the kid's flip-flops so we could go home. I need to mention as well, that Pro and Rahul were with us at the beach. Pro is like a substitute granddad and really likes Naomi. He, sweet man that he is, offered to hold Naomi on our way home. I was only too grateful!! As we got to the street light and got ready to cross, James came walking up to meet us on our way home. I was so relieved! James takes the throw ups in stride and doesn't get too riled up about any of the normal sickys that befall children. I, on the other hand, am always a stressed out, over-anxious woman who just wants it all to go away since I can't just leave the kids to tend to themselves.
Okay, so James took Naomi from Pro's loving arms to carry her the rest of the way home. She is much more comfortable with James (as should be) and nestled her face into his neck and closed her eyes. Poor baby! When we got home James took her into the bathroom and gave her a cool bath. I got some ice water to dip a washcloth in so he could cool off her hot forehead and neck. I also presented him with a throw up bowl (just in case)!
After Naomi's bath he wrapped her in a bath towel and sat with her on the couch, cool as a cucumber, while I paced around trying to figure out if it was heat exhaustion or a virus. James and Princess both thought it was due to the heat. I figured it was, too, since an hour and half later she perked up and wanted to eat. She didn't bring anything back up the rest of the evening.
I'm concerned, though, since with all that I've looked up online a fever shouldn't continue if you've had heat exhaustion. Last night, she woke up around 3:30 with a temp of 101. I gave her tylenol and a drink. She went back to sleep. Then, this morning, her temp was 99.9. That's not normal for her. She always averages 98.7. So, is this a virus we're dealing with??
My other concern is that if it is a virus, there's a chance the other two could come down with it and wouldn't be better before we have to leave on Tuesday for our Kansas trip.
Please pray for Naomi and Henry and Marcail. That their health and immunity would be boosted by the Berry Well and Oregano oil I'm administering to them now. Also, pray for me and my anxiety and for wise decisions as we look toward Tuesday. We have non-refundable tickets so if we aren't able to go, we will have said good-bye to a substantial amount of hard-earned money!
I have decided to keep the kids indoors for a day or two just so that Naomi can recuperate. It is mighty hot here in South Florida! Therefore, we will not be able to meet our Italian friends tonight for our planned picnic. I'm disappointed but the kid's health comes first! Please pray. Thank you!

another one of THOSE meals
I was prepared! I had 100% steroid, hormone and antibiotic-free ground turkey and ground chicken thawed. I had salsa. I had a can of whole kernel corn. I had a little cheddar and a lot of mozzarella cheese (pre-shredded). I had whole wheat tortillas. My plan:
Fry up the meat, add the salsa and corn.
Roll the meat mixture in the tortillas.
Nuke the bean-less burritos and serve!
However, as I waited on the meat to get done, I realized that the tortillas were too old and stale to use. The use by date on the package was April 16, 2009. It's June. No good! I was miffed! The one night I was prepared for dinner and I wasn't! What was I going to do now?? James calls from the living room where he is keeping the kids occupied and out of my way, "How about some pasta?"
"Pasta?" I 'yell'! "Who wants to eat mexican meat with pasta?" But, that really was my only other option since I wasn't going to the store just to get some tortillas! I was tired just thinking about that and the kids were getting hungry! So, I cooked up some angel hair noodles. I served the mexican meat with a side of pasta onto the plates with a worried thought that the kids wouldn't like it.
What was I thinking???? Throughout the entire meal the kids kept telling me, "Dis is so good!" I was so relieved and thankful. Good thing James was home to offer some advice. I'll have to keep that meal on hand from now on. It's so simple, too! The kids had thirds and James had fourths!

warm bread and butter
Henry is almost always the first one awake after nap. Henry is almost always the hungriest one after nap. Henry almost always tells me, 2 minutes after he comes out and hugs me, "I want a nack, mommy."
Yesterday was no exception. I hear their bedroom door open, listen for shuffling feet and watch for a honey-blonde head to walk around the couch. Henry spots me, stops, waits for me to smile and hold out my arms. Henry smiles and wraps his arms around me. He says, "Hi, mom." I squeeze him and toussle his sleepy hair. Next thing out of Henry's mouth, "I want a nack, mommy."
"You do?" I say, "What kind of snack?"
"Bread," he whispers. I grin. I have made two fresh loaves this week. I am happy to comply with such a sweet request. As I warm up some slices of bread, Henry gets his drink out of the fridge.
He is not yet ready to smile for the camera.

"henry, stop whining!"
While we played with Rahul down by the office, Henry started whining and complaining that he wanted to go "to da bike and motorcycle door". He is jonesin' for a bike since Rahul received one for his birthday and he has gotten to try it out a few times. Once Henry starts it's difficult to get him to stop. Especially when he's having, what I like to call, a low blood sugar moment.
James was trying to talk him into being happy without losing his temper. He does this far better than me!
After we went up to our apartment that evening and I fed the children, I had to run some errands. Henry, not missing a beat, ran to put on his flip-flops and told me, "Mama, I ready!" How can a mama resist such cuteness? Rarely do the kids go somewhere alone with either one of their parents. Before I could even tell Henry that he could come with me he told his sisters, "I'm goin with mama to da door. Ooh are stayin with daddy, girs." He was so matter of fact that James and I just looked at each other and laughed! The "girs" did not find it amusing. But, taking turns is a big deal in our family, so they stayed and Henry went.
Yesterday, as Marcail was figuring out that we needed to get more cereal at the store she informed her siblings that she would go by herself with mama. It would be her turn. Boy, they grow up fast!
